“Good morning. Glad to see you out here.”
This was said to me by an anti as he passed by on his circle around the block. His mission was to intercept clients before they got to where the escorts were standing.
The words left me speechless. I wasn’t glad to see him. If he and his fellow protesters weren’t there, clients would be able to enter the clinic without harassment and I could be home sleeping.
“I admire your dedication. How many days a week are you here?” Another pause and rewind moment when that was said to me by an anti who comes at least once a week. Was I supposed to reply, ‘I admire yours too’? I don’t.
There is nothing normal about the dynamics on the sidewalk. Everyday courtesies are out of place. How can you scream at us for being liars and murderers one minute and say you are glad to see us the next?
These exchanges always remind me of the Warner Bros. cartoon of Ralph the wolf and Sam the sheepdog punching a time clock. Polite and cordial until the stroke of 7a, then adversaries for the next hour or hour and a half.

REMINDER: Our annual fund drive Pledge-A-Picketer is NOW!
The Saturday before Mother’s Day is the biggest protester day of the year. It also is the date where we count protesters for donations to support the pro-choice effort and the escorts. You can pledge a certain amount for each protester showing up that morning. If you prefer, you can also make a straight monetary donation.
Use this form to make your pledge:

I guess they had just had a “love your enemy/hate the sin/love the sinner” type sermon before they went out there so it put them in a WWJD kind of mood.
Longtail,
Actually, an escort who is much kinder than I speculated that maybe they worked in retail or a business where they greeted customers all day. You know, a habit from everyday life being carried over onto the sidewalk in an unconscious type of way. But the more cynical escort (me), looked at it as a total disconnect on their parts to what they were saying as one more form of hypocrisy we witness daily. But you may be right, they may have been getting in the WWJD mood before they started yelling at clients at the property line of the clinic. Sigh.
Thanks as always,

OMG, love the cartoon analogy. What cognitive dissonance, the anti-choicers have.
Ok, now I’ve got to show my 4 yr old Hunting the Wabbit, she’ll love the Wagner! Thanks for reminding me of this and keep up the good work!!!
Oubli,
That was always one of my favorite cartoons as a child. Definitely, you should introduce your child to Warner Bros! The Wagner one was also one of my favorites.
Thanks as always,
