Thanksgiving Thoughts

Last Saturday, the escorts were invited to breakfast by the members of a local church.  They fix an amazing breakfast for us at least once a year, and it is such a treat.

It’s a lovely array of fresh fruit, nuts, low-fat vanilla yogurt, and brown sugar.

Oatmeal, quiche (two kinds) strata, bacon, sausage… all the ingredients for a fabulous breakfast.

They say they want to express their appreciation for us escorting, and we leave appreciating their warmth,  their kind words, and the wonderful food.  Add in the pleasure of sharing the feast with other escorts, and it’s the perfect Saturday morning.  Thank you very much, Nice People of First Unitarian Church!!

Servalbear and I were talking on Saturday about other people we’re grateful for.  Here are a few:

~  The staff at EMW.  Your dedication and hard work make it possible for people to have access to abortion in Kentucky.   Thank you.

~  Other escorts.  Your commitment, your willingness to be there before dawn in any kind of weather inspires me to be there too.  Sharing that experience with each other brings us together in a way that few things can.  Thank you.

~  Wenches.  Without some of you, there wouldn’t be a blog, and there might not be anyone escorting if you hadn’t seen it through some lean years.  For sure, I wouldn’t know anything about escorting without your influence.  Your dedication over the years, and your commitment to working for sexual and reproductive health in a variety of ways are impressive.  Thank you.

~  The people who comment on the blog.  I enjoy your comments so much.  It makes it much more interesting to write posts if someone says something back so it doesn’t feel like putting a message in a bottle and throwing it out to sea.  Thank you.

~  All of you who support reproductive justice.  Whether you show it with donations of time or money or other ways, whether you work for abortion access or other aspects of human rights, we appreciate you.  Thank you.

Finally ~ I’m thankful for Servalbear.   Your steady work and consistent follow through help keep the blog from being a hit-or-miss affair.  I really appreciate that, and enjoy working with you on it.

Hope you all have a nice holiday tomorrow!!

  1. As someone who was personally sent contact numbers & escorted back in August, I will be eternally grateful for you all. I only wish I lived closer so I could escort.

    • Missy, you know you are more than welcome. Of course we’d love to have you escort if you did live closer, but it nice to know you’re out there supporting reproductive justice too!

  2. I am thankful for you and all the escorts. Thank you for protecting us when we need you the most.

Unitarian churches are what all churches should be like. 🙂

    • Thanks for the kind words,, Longtail! Your support is always appreciated.

Unitarian churches are awesome, aren’t they!! And really, there are a number of churches which are supportive of reproductive justice, which is heartening, we see so much of the other.

And – I have to say it, just for the record, we don’t “protect” anyone. We just walk with them….

      🙂 Thanks again!!

      • Being a presence is a pretty powerful form of protection. You wrote a post once where you said you often get asked by clients “What are they going to DO to me?” We already can guess what the antis would do to these women if you weren’t there.

  3. I’m up here in Canada so we don’t celebrate thanksgiving tomorrow… I think it was earlier this month and whatnot, but still, it’s always good to hear from people on the frontlines such as you and the other escorts.

It’s always good to hear about how others are faring in this constant fight, seemingly on all levels of society, to treat women like actual people.

So thank you for all of your hard work.

  4. We are thankful that you are here — and Servalbear is here — to be the voice of your Escort community and bring to light the insanity that you face on a daily basis.

Happy Thanksgiving – -and bless you all

  5. Well said and I am thankful for all of those things. I am also thankful for the opportunity to help FML on the blog. We work well together. Hope everyone has a day full of family and friends tomorrow.
