Antis always try to hand clients pamphlets when they are walking to the clinic. Clients frequently will pass these pamphlets on to the escorts as they enter the clinic. We usually just throw them away after glancing at them.
The antis are never happy about what we do with these unwanted handouts. If we give them back to the antis, ‘You had no right to take these from the client. Don’t you want them to know the truth?’ On the other hand, if we throw them away we hear, `You are destroying my property. These aren’t yours. You have no right to just throw them away.’
Many of us are curious about what these pamphlets say. It comes under the category of knowing your opposition’s position, I suppose. It could just be plain curiosity. One escort even has a collection of different handouts thrust upon the clients.
My car has been papered frequently with some of the simpler handouts. So far, they are the ones just calling for all people to accept Jesus or face the consequences of hell.
The handouts we see most frequently are single sheets of paper, printed on both sides and perhaps bi-folded or tri-folded. They are in English, but there is a supply of Spanish language translations that can be pulled out in case they are needed. These handouts give the “facts” about conception, abortion, adoption and direct clients to the CPC next door to the abortion clinic. When we see a new handout, I am always curious to see what changes, if any, have been made.
There was a new brochure being handed out recently and I was immediately curious. It is a magazine-quality, 31-page brochure produced by Care Net*. Care Net is an organization dedicated to sharing resources and information with CPCs around the country. This brochure has a place on the back to personalize it by stamping it with the CPC name and address.
Imagine my disappointment to find out there wasn’t any new information contained in this professional-looking brochure. It is 31 pages of misleading information and debunked theories wrapped in religious words designed to coerce a client to carry a pregnancy to full term. The hope is always any new brochure will update with information from research within the past 20 years. It is a hope destined to be disappointed.
The chapters on the immediate risks of abortion and the long-term effects of abortion are the most inaccurate. The “facts” in the brochure are the same untrue statements we hear on the sidewalk every morning: increased risk of miscarriage, link to breast cancer, depression, drug and alcohol abuse, suicide, and relationship problems.**
Now that I have satisfied my curiosity, I will pass the brochure along to be part of the escort’s collection.

REMINDER: If you are interested in escorting, don’t forget the training on September 8th at 9A. Training is not required, but it’s helpful. Please see our Trainings for Escorts page or email us for additional information.
Another great post, Servalbear. Thanks for the links to the factual information!
