Musings About The New Fake Clinic
You know, when I step back and look at this from a 5, 10, or 20-year perspective (in my mind’s eye, that is), it looks like the antichoicers got so frustrated by their inability to prevent women from having abortions that they conjured up their best idea to divide and conquer.
They rented the space next door and opened up a storefront antichoicers boutique for pandering disinformation, exerting undue coercion, and perfecting sidewalk bullying.
But in the long run, as long as there are unwanted and unplanned pregnancies, women will continue to seek and have abortions.
We may be allowing ourselves to be whipped into a frenzy over what may, in the long run, be nothing.
Short of building a wall across the sidewalk to completely block any pedestrian traffic(both illegal and impractical, although not beyond their richly financed pockets), they really cannot change the truth that there always has been, are today, and always will be women having abortions.
It is one of the choices women sometimes make in life.
As much as that disappoints, saddens, frusrates, and bewilders the antichoicers, women will still sometimes choose to terminate their unwanted pregnancies or have D&C’s after miscarriages.
We have as little chance of persuading them of this fact as they have of persuading us to believe in their “facts.”
But in the moment, when I am using my body as a physical buffer zone to give a client safe passage from their car to the clinic door, it can feel very oppressive to be met by a wall of screaming, singing, chanting, praying fanatics.
I hope we continue to build good relations and work out healthy compromises with each other.
Thank you for hearing me out, gang.
